5 Books That Will Change the Way You See Yourself Forever
Have you ever read a book that completely changed your life?
It's amazing that a few words typed out on paper can challenge the way we think and allow us to see things from a new perspective. As we embark on a journey of self-awareness and personal development, it's important to continue to read books that force us to think differently, that cause us to pause and contemplate life in a different way.
Below, I'm sharing 5 books that have completely changed the way I think about myself, my life and the pursuit of happiness. (Because let's be honest, we're all on a pursuit of happiness, right? ) If you've read any of these books, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
The Universe Has Your Back: Transform Fear to Faith by Gabby Bernstein
"When you vibrate a high-vibe, loving energy, you will receive high-vibe loving energy reflected back to you"
I've read "The Universe Has Your Back" more than any other book I've ever owned. When I'm starting to doubt myself or the universe I pick up this book for a good kick in the ass. Gabby Bernstein is a spiritual guru who teaches us, in this book, that the key to getting the life you want is a combination of meditation, effort and having an inherent belief that what you want is going to happen to you. In short, if you have never been introduced to the Law of Attraction, then this is a great book for you to start with.
What to Say When You Talk to Your Self by Shad Helmstetter
“Belief does not require something to be true. It only requires us to believe that it’s true! That’s powerful stuff! That means most of what reality is, to each of us, is based on what we have come to believe—whether it’s true or not!”
I don't know about you, but I am my own worst enemy. There is so much negative self-talk going on in my head that I deserve detention for the amount of bullying I've inflicted on myself. "What to say when you talk to yourself" was very eye-opening in that, unlike your traditional personal development advice, this advice is actually based in science. Did you know that your brain doesn't know the difference between seeing an actual sunset or imagining one? Think about that. It means you can literally tell your brain anything and it will believe it. Which means when you tell yourself that you are fat and worthless, your brain has no option but to believe it. But what if you flipped the script an constantly told your brain how beautiful and capable you are...it would have no option but to believe and just think how believing those things about yourself would improve your life, self-esteem, and wellbeing?
Big Magic: Creating a Life Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert
“It seems to me that the less I fight my fear, the less it fights back. If I can relax, fear relaxes, too.”
Big Magic is a must-have for those of you who are paralyzed by fear. Those of you who have a desire to break out and be creative and yet find yourself cowering to your inner mean girl of self-doubt and fear. In this book, the author encourages you to step beyond that fear and create what you are compelled to create despite the fact that you are shaking in your booties. Do it because you love the process. Create because you need to stop living a life that is limited by your comfort zone.
You are a Bad Ass: How to Stop Doubting your Greatness and start living an awesome life
Ever feel like you need a cheerleader in your pocket. The kind of person who's going to jump out and say "You Go Girl" whenever you need a kick in the butt? Well that's exactly what "You are a Bad Ass" is, it's a literally kick in the pants to remind you that not only are you 'really are a badass", but all of that negative self-talk you are giving yourself is the only thing that's actually holding you back from living the life you want to leave. Once you realize this....your world will forever be changed.
“If you’re serious about changing your life, you’ll find a way. If you’re not, you’ll find an excuse.”
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Mark Manson
“In my life, I have given a fuck about many people and many things. I have also not given a fuck about many people and many things. And like the road not taken, it was the fucks not given that made all the difference.”
Spoiler Alert: There is a lot of colorful language in this book. BUT if you don't mind a few eff bombs for emphasis then you will love "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck". Now the title may be a bit counterintuitive because in the book you will learn that you actually SHOULD give a fuck...but only to the things that are important to you. And it's your job to decide which elements of your life deserve fucks or not. Once you determine where you're putting your fucks, then my friends, you will live a life without the bullshit fuckery.
